The UGC-NET determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for 'Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor', 'Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.', and 'Admission to Ph.D. only' in Indian Universities and Colleges. The National Testing Agency will administer the examination across multiple test cities nationwide. Eligible Indian citizens who hold or are currently pursuing a Master's degree can apply online within the active registration window. UGC-NET Essential Eligibility Qualifications
  • General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC.
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender category candidates must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination.
  • Candidates who are pursuing their Master's degree or equivalent course, or candidates who have appeared for their qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited are also eligible to apply provisionally.
Age Limit & Relaxations
  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Not more than 30 years as on the first day of the month in which the examination concludes.
  • JRF Age Relaxation: A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to candidates belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender categories, and women applicants.
  • Assistant Professor & Ph.D. Admission: There is no upper age limit for candidates applying for Eligibility for Assistant Professor or Admission to Ph.D. entries.

HOW TO FILL NTA UGC NET ONLINE FORM 2026

  • Fill up your basic personal particulars to generate your unique Application Number and configure your secure system password.
